About St. Kieran's Community Centre

More than just a building...

St. Kieran's Community Centre is a testament to what a community can achieve when they come together with a shared purpose.

When Shannon Development returned this beautiful 1837 church to the people of Labasheeda in the mid-1980s, the building was in desperate need of care. What happened next was extraordinary. Local volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got to work. They laid floors, installed heating, restored windows, and breathed new life into every corner of this historic structure. In 1988, St. Kieran’s Community Centre officially reopened its doors.

Since then, it has been the only community building in our area, serving as a gathering place for celebrations, classes, festivals, and everyday life. From Christmas parties to set dancing, flower arranging workshops to funeral receptions, St. Kieran's has hosted countless memories over the past three decades.

The work isn't finished. Ongoing restoration continues to preserve the building's original features whilst ensuring it remains a welcoming, functional space for modern use. We are in the process of restoring the wooden church windows and exposed wooden trusses to enhance its unique character, making it a truly distinctive historic venue in West Clare.

Everything you see here exists because of community effort. Every volunteer hour, every fundraising event, and every donation helps keep this special place alive for future generations.
